Clark to lead by example

It has been just a few months since Mitch Clark decided to sign up with Melbourne Demons, but he already knows what his targets at his new clubs are.

I just wanted to come here and earn the respect of my teammates and the staff here.

The Demons have so far done everything to make Clark feel comfortable due to his star status. They have given him the jersey of his preference and have also included him in the club's leadership group for the 2012 AFL season, even though it came at the expense of leaving out several experienced players such as Brad Green, Brent Moloney, Aaron Davey and Jared Rivers.
Melbourne Demons are 5001.00 to win the 2012 AFL Grand Final. Collingwood can be backed at odds of 6.50.
Being chosen a leader ahead of other candidates is a source of delight for the 24-year old Clark, who said: "I was pretty surprised.
"I just wanted to come here and earn the respect of my teammates and the staff here. Obviously, with this tag I have probably earned a bit of respect.
“But I still have a long way to go. I have only been here for a short time now, and can probably give a little bit more of myself now, too. I will just continue to train hard and prepare myself for the season."
Even though he hasn't been with his new teammates for long, he has already made a positive impression on them by being totally committed during the training drills.
"We have been here the same amount of time and … the input Mitch has had on the group, the way that he goes about his training, his preparation is first-class. It is a great big tick for him from his peers," new Demons coach Mark Neeld said of Clark.
