Former Australian Test opener Phil Jaques has announced that he will quit the domestic cricketing circuit at the end of the on-going 2011/12 season.
Jaques, who played six ODIs and 11 Tests for Australia in his international career, has agreed to play for English County club Yorkshire from next season.
The 32-year old veteran has been a top class batsman for NSW in the past few years and he has so far scored 5659 runs for them at an average of 41.30 runs per innings in 77 Sheffield Shield games.
His Ryobi Cup run-tally stands at 2340, which he scored at an average of 39.66 in 66 matches.
"I have made this decision with my family in mind and I'm looking forward to the next chapter of my career. I've thoroughly enjoyed my time playing cricket for NSW and Australia and have always considered it a privilege. I have also made plenty of great friends along the way. I hope to remain involved with Cricket NSW in some capacity in the future," Jaques said.
"My 11 years playing for NSW have helped me to grow as a player and person and I appreciate all of their support I have received over the years. I walk away with no regrets knowing that I have given 100 percent every time I have walked onto the ground and I will continue to do this until the end of the season," he added.
Australia are 1.61 to defeat India in the first T20 match while the tourists are 2.30 to get the win.
