Nicholls looks to Dildar for success
January 31, 2012 09:38:14 UK
It is rare to see Paul Nicholls' all-conquering yard field so many runners as early in the week as he chooses to at Taunton and Folkestone today.
And perhaps the most interesting of the seven he sends out is Dildar, who has been recruited from Alain De Royer Dupre's Flat yard from whence the West Country maestro took last season's Triumph Hurdle winner Zarkandar.
With Ruby Walsh arriving from Ireland for the ride, this one looks a real future prospect, although his odds may be too cramped to make him a serious proposition today.
Dildar is 1.53 to win the 2.10 at Taunton, with Alwaary 5.50 and Sew On Target 8.00.
Also spicing things up is the appearance of Ted Spread (3.10 Taunton), who was comprehensively beaten by Saturday's Cheltenham winner and big Triumph Hurdle hope Grumeti.
Sanctuaire (2.40 Taunton) has proved frustrating this term after winning the Scottish Champion Hurdle in April, but lost any chance he may have held at Kempton Park's Grade 1 Hurdle last time when he veered left at the start. However, he's the classy performer in this field.
Nicholls fields three of his apparent lesser lights at Folkestone, although Merrion Square - on his chasing bow - may be worth watching in the market after finishing fifth to the useful Richard Lee trained Knock A Hand, who has now completed a hat-trick of victories over decent opposition.
